Matka Story

The story of Matka revolves around Brij Bhatti, a cotton trader in 1960s Mumbai. Brij is hardworking, ambitious, and hungry for respect. He wants to rise above his ordinary life and create something that gives him money, name, and power.

His life changes when he starts a new gambling game called Matka. Earlier, betting and gambling were mostly controlled by rich and elite circles, but Brij makes the game accessible to common people. This idea spreads quickly and pulls people from different sections of society into the Matka world.

As the game becomes popular, Brij’s status also grows. He moves from small business circles into Mumbai’s bigger social and political spaces. But success does not come alone. With money comes greed, enemies, police attention, political pressure, and betrayal.

Brij’s empire slowly becomes bigger than he imagined. His family life suffers, his trusted people begin to change, and his own morals start breaking. The same game that gives him power also begins to destroy his peace.

The series also shows how Matka affects the city. Mill workers, businessmen, politicians, police officers, journalists, and criminals all become part of this underground system in different ways. What starts as a number game becomes a dangerous web of ambition and control.

Why Matka Became Popular

Matka King gained attention because of its fresh backdrop. Indian OTT has many crime thrillers, but a period drama based on the rise of the Matka gambling world gives the show a different identity.

Vijay Varma’s performance as Brij Bhatti became one of the main highlights. The show also attracted viewers because of Nagraj Manjule’s direction, the 1960s Mumbai setting, and the strong supporting cast. The series has already been renewed for a second season, which shows its strong response after release.
